Welcome from the Headteacher
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of Ystruth Primary School. On behalf of myself, Governors, staff and children, I would like to warmly welcome you to our wonderful school!
Ystruth is situated in the town of Blaina surrounded by the beautiful rugged landscape of the Ebbw Fach Valley. On the amalgamation of Cwmcelyn Infants, Blaina Infants and Blaina Junior Schools, Ystruth opened its doors in September 2003. We currently have 319 happy children who are ready to learn coming through our gates daily.
At Ystruth we are dedicated to creating a safe and secure learning environment where every child can thrive physically, intellectually, emotionally and academically. We believe in nurturing the whole child and encourage our children to explore their interests and try new things. Many visitors to the school comment on the friendliness and warm welcome they receive and the politeness and maturity of our pupils.
We are passionate about inclusive education and believe that every child deserves to be in a school where they are supported, respected and cared for. This is reflected in our Rights Respecting School Gold Reaccreditation, excellent LA Safeguarding Self-Evaluation Review and Thrive Ambassador School status.
We host a Social Communication Special Needs Resource Base and have attained ASD Friendly Status. Our SNRB children are fully involved in all aspects of school life.
Our innovative Rights and Values driven curriculum is the backbone of teaching and learning. Our values of Belonging, Ambition and Respect permeates through everything we do and say. We have a modern learning environment that promotes collaboration, creativity and independent learning. The committed and hardworking staff ensure there are high expectations, quality teaching and purposeful, authentic learning experiences for all, as we believe every child has the right to be the best they can be!
We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with families. We believe that education is a shared responsibility and encourage parents to be actively involved in their child's education. We have an open door policy in school and welcome parents and carers. We believe a strong partnership between school and home is vital. Staff members are always willing to help parents and keep them informed about progress in well-being and in academic matters. We offer a range of opportunities for parent involvement, including PACT sessions, pupil progress meetings, curriculum workshops and school events.
We actively engage with the wider community and make links with local businesses and groups. This enriches our curriculum and demonstrates to children that they can become valuable members of the Community and effective Global Citizens.
At Ystruth there are very good opportunities for professional development of all staff. We are a provider of Initial Teacher Education and support the induction of new teachers into the profession. We provide placements for aspiring Teaching Assistants.
If you would like further information, or would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school.
Warmest Regards
Mrs Melanie Miller
